Hardware

The most fun about the hardware is the on-the-fly DSP processing of the sound outputs, including line-in, CD-in, MIC-in; another of my favourite -> Microphone Chipmunk mode!!

Another good point - SPDIF/I2S for CD digital input. Has some bugs though: has a loud click when you skip tracks on the CD. But overall, useful to bypass the low-end DAC found on most CDroms, and use the AC97 DAC instead (at least 90dB SNR).

The rest of the hardware has not much difference to other existing high-end sound cards.

You will notice performance measurements are about the same as other cards due to the use of the AC97 codec, the Sigmatel 9701 (remarked to Creative logo).

Software

Software bundling for this card is a whole tonne-full. Installation of the bundled software took a long time, but it was worth it. Games include a Special Edition of Unreal. Demo programs gives and inside to the basics and techniques of sound manipulation to emulate the environment. Pretty useful and entertaining. My fav is the Rythmmania - played with it for hours...

Verdict

If you can shelve out the money -> buy it!
